Los Angeles end of life care doesn’t take a break, even for the coronavirus. The COVID-19 outbreak has put a halt to day-to-day life as we know it. It’s also having profound impacts on how we mourn as well. Funerals are now restricted to as few as 2-5 attendees. At least one mortuary has stopped funerals altogether. Family and friends who live far away can’t attend funerals or be with someone in their final days due to travel restrictions. Even local family members are being separated from their loved ones dying in nursing homes. This is all with the goal to stop the spread of COVID-19, but our need for connection and ways to express grief has not stopped.
